I do know the opera vpn is free, so that's not bad !

Depends on what your after, there are a bunch of limitations. It's only a browser VPN, so it may be more challenging routing other traffic through the VPN. Your also limited to continent level "virtual locations" which limits your ability to access region specific locked content.

It's owned by a Chinese corporation and 'free'... which is in fact, bad. Of course there's better alternatives. Set up your own, hack one, spend a few bucks, game fuckers for 24hr trials if you're ghetto and or a kid etc, etc.

Because price is one of the indicators of quality (in many aspects - privacy being one), the fact that Opera VPN is "free" would really mean that it is the opposite of "not bad".

Here are some VPN guides to help you decide on one of your choice:
https://www.ivpn.net/privacy-guides
https://www.privacytools.io/providers/vpn/
https://thatoneprivacysite.net/vpn-comparison-chart/

But of course if you have no qualms about any privacy violations, Opera could work for casual use.

Given Opera's other issues I'm not sure how I'd feel about their VPN service
