Thoughts on Purism products
#1
What do you guys think of Purism's Librem laptops? I know they're overpriced, but would the cost justify the benefits. I heard they have ~96% of the Intel Management Engine disabled and removed, has physical hardware killswitches, uses a Debian-forked OS (PureOS), etc.

Planning on getting the Librem 13 v4 when it drops late2018-early2019. Waiting for that extra RAM slot lol

last time when i had installed linux on my pc,
i did not install any drivers,
everything worked fine without any drivers,
drivers that came bundled with kernel worked just fine.

what is the point of having hardware kill switch,
there is forensic which could enable authorities to recover data.

please enlighten me why would you like to buy this laptop ? Biggrin

The Librem laptops have full disk encryption as well as a tamper-evident boot process. The physical hardware kill switches are there for the extra privacy since apparently Big Brother can still access your camera/mic even when your system is powered off.

Well everything about it is open-source so I think it'll be worth to everyone who values that.

It actually comes with 16 GB RAM atm if that's what you were looking for. I'm looking to get 32 GB (or even 64 GB, fingers crossed) of RAM. Planning on running a couple VMs regularly.
