Hello everyone!

I need some extra power to help me crack a hash.

The hash is:

fefd6e7e3f385209813f9b15bc5ea2c480fbc5b1:ca831d577544afbfe699fadcd0ac6866f9023890

and is from the 8tracks database. It is allegedly a SHA1 hash with salt. But from my brief experience with hash cracking, a 40 character salt seems a bit off. What do you guys think of this, what type of hash is it? And coult it be cracked? I will offer an amount of btc if you could crack it. And also to get you motivated!  Wink

PM here or discord:johnnysmith#8875

Cheers!

A salt is just something added before hashing the password to make it harder to crack, so yes the salt can be 40 chars or even 1000000000 chars if you want, (ofc only if the hash type allows for that char length which sha1 does.)

Now to the 8tracks hash type, its sha1(--$salt--.$pass--) which is fefd6e7e3f385209813f9b15bc5ea2c480fbc5b1:--ca831d577544afbfe699fadcd0ac6866f9023890--

You need to run -m 120 with $-$- rule to append -- at the end of each password. (using  hashcat)

EDIT:

You can also use -m 27200 and skip the -- in the salts and pws

Yes, this is -m 27200, I have tried running a 10 GB dictionary on this hash with sadly no results. You might have some luck using rule sets though. Good luck.
