GIS Software & Data for All

Hi All,

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software can be quite helpful when it comes to handling big data
such as those on RaidForum. Some datasets already have XY or Latitude/Longitude coordinate fields that can be easily mapped.
Datasets with street address data can be geo-coded to get XY coordinates.

The two leading GIS software packages are:

1. QGIS - Opensource with lots of free plugins
Latest download is here:
https://qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html

2. ArcGIS - Commercial but cheap for students and developers.

I would recommend the following two good sources for pirate GIS software:
Lavteam
http://www.lavteam.org

GisArea
https://www.gisarea.com/
You will have to register on the forum and make one short post before the secret software section appears.

For a starting GIS database this site gives National OpenStreetMap
data in GIS firendly shapefile format to help get started.

Once you have the GIS & data setup then probably best next step is to find some
"Getting started" Youtube videos and away you go.

Good Luck!
