Interesting, would you care to expand?
Does an ISP need to rent out some IP's in order to finance their shit?

Do you live in a somewhat densely populated area? (Check out aircrack-ng recommended wifi adapters. I have a couple ALFA, they are good long range adapters)

I've tested myself

----------------------------------------------------------
a. get to meet your neighbours
b. get invited over
c. go over
d. ask for the wifi password to go online for whatever reason
e. money!
f. there might be other benefits of knowing your neighbours

Option 2 - neighbouring shops
------------------------------------------------
a. if any shops are within reach (they might be with a directional antenna you can by online)
b. if the shops share there password
c. go get the password
d. money

Option 3 - wifi attacks
-----------------------------------
Path I
a. learn how wifi works
b. learn how to attack WPS
c. learn how to attack WEP
d. learn how WPA handshakes work and try to capture and crack some
e. if you are lucky enough then money! otherwise you have a lot of knowledge that could make you real money
Path II
a. get a wifi module that supports monitor mode and injection mode (if your current does not)
b. run wifite (prefere to attack WEP then WPS and then go for WPA/WPA2)
c. if you are lucky enough then money! otherwise you don't get a lot of knowledge so you should find other ways to make real money

Option 4 - MAC/IP Hijack
----------------------------------------
a. this will probably not work long term.
b. find a public access point in reach. Hotels/companies/organisations/ISPs usually set them up for their customers (so they can access the internet after going through a captive portal login). Those APs are not password protected
c. listen for any authenticated devices on the network
d. record their IP and MAC address
e. figure out how the device is white listed on the network (i.e. using MAC or IP or both)
f. replace your own identifier with the one or two found on the network.
g. money!

Option 5 - Protocol Tunneling
-----------------------------------------------
a. be prepared, this will be tough, your bandwidth will be low but if it works it will be free
b. find a public access point in reach. Hotels/companies/organisations/ISPs usually set them up for their customers (so they can access the internet after going through a captive portal login). Those APs are not password protected
c. Find out if any protocol is let through (such as ICMP, DNS etc)
d. Setup a tunnel to a server somewhere you control
e. money!

Good luck and let us know if any of this worked for you.

Someone that had free internet throughout his studies (mostly using option 3)

I'm happy it was of help to you

There are some cellular providers like redpocket which is $10 a month for 500mb of data.. There are also free dial up providers! if you still have a landline!

Cantenna would increase your range but not by much. You can use the wigglenet(1) to see if there are cracked out free locations in your area;
